Who We Are

We play every fortnight under the AFL masters/ VIC metro Superules banner, 10 games plus 2 finals per year where the competition boasts over 30 clubs of all different membership sizes. Our club was created in 1988 and with over 30 years in the league although not always under the name Plenty Valley we have been and still are a very successful franchise of superules football both on and off the field.

In 1988 we began our journey under the banner of the Research senior football club playing out of Eltham lower park, in 1992 we moved to take up residence at the Eltham football club still under the Research superules banner however this partnership only lasted a few years with both clubs looking in different directions. After a few discussions the club felt a great connection with the Greensborough senior football club in 1995, took on a name change to Greensborough Superules and have been very connected with that club for over 25 years now. Our club had now found a home that would provide growth of playing numbers for those stepping forward from senior football and a great future for us being part of a division 1 Northern football league club

For the Greensborough senior football club the circle was now complete. Kids were beginning at the junior club at 7 years old and could play right through the junior system, through the senior system and keep going through the superules and remain supporters of the group.
Under the Greensborough superules banner we were able to grow the club and achievements began to come the clubs way. We played in our very first Grand final in second division in 1995 going down to a very strong and capable Oak Park side. The next year saw both winner and runner up moved up in to division 1 or premier division where we became very successful playing in many finals up until 2002 where we won our very first division 1 superules grand final. For years after that great win we have played in many finals only to just miss out on a few occasions. Testimony to how hard it is to win grand finals at whatever level you play.

Growing the team

To help increase our exposure to older guys coming out of senior football in our area we changed the club name to Plenty Valley superules in 2014 to become more generic for players from competing clubs to Greensborough. This strategy proved successful with the inclusion of players from all of the senior teams around our area now making up the teams that take the field today.

As our numbers grew so did the amount of teams that we presented every second Sunday. Our Supers side (over 35s) grew which allowed us to introduce a reserves side (Masters) in mid 2000 and as our playing list was still home to those original members who put our club on the map, 2014 saw us enter our own, stand-alone legends team (over 50s) into the competition.

Today we field 3 sides every second Sunday throughout the season and some of our much older players are helping put an over 55s competition together by playing in the northern division on the alternate Sundays.
We play/train out of War Memorial oval Greensborough during the season proper and council provisioned locations for our pre-season. We generally run pre-season for about 6 weeks before Christmas and recommence the first Wednesday of February. While training is taken seriously we ensure that we have fun as well, that there is no judgement on skills and capabilities and that players train to their individual abilities. At the completion of training we provide an opportunity to socialise and generally enjoy a team environment. We provide trainers to ensure we all continue to remain fit and healthy and able to enjoy our club and all it offers.

Our Culture

We pride ourselves on having a family friendly culture and strive to be inclusive of all. We offer not only great footy but a social outlet for our players, families and friends. We have several functions and social events each year including
  • Family days which often involve a children’s modified match at half time, jumping castles, face painters for the kids, raffles, displays, champagne and afternoon tea for the ladies.
  • Trivia Nights, Wednesday night selection dinners, Mystery Bus trips and mid year dinner dances. Functions vary year to year but at minimum we try to host at least a couple of social events each season.
  • The Sportsmen’s night is one of our clubs annual events where we invite guest speaker from various sports and comedians provide entertainment while we enjoy each others company over a beer or two.
  • We culminate each season with a formal Presentation Night giving all of our community the opportunity to dress to impress, enjoy live music and celebrate the success of the year that was.
  • Pre-Season Training camps to start the new season.
